PRAYAGRAJ: Shaista Parveen, wife of slain mafia-turned-politician AtiqAhmad, and shooter Sabir made a futile attempt to attend the burial of AtiqAhmad and his brother Ashraf at Kasari Masari graveyard on April 16, but changed their plan in view of tight security arrangements.
A man, identified as Mohd Atin Zafar, who was arrested on May 2 on charges of giving shelter to Sabir, told interrogators that Sabir had stayed at his house on April 16 and May 2.
Zafar told cops that Shaista had visited Prayagraj thrice after the murder of Umesh Pal - a witness in the 2005 murder case of MLA Raju Pal - in Dhoomanganj on February 24.
During interrogation, Zafar informed cops that Shaista and Sabir tried to visit Kasari Masari graveyard in disguise to attend the burial of Atiq and Ashraf on April 16 but changed their plan at the last moment.
Police said that Sabir took shelter at Zafar's house on April 16 and again visited him on May 2 on the instructions of Shaista. The same day, police raided Zafar's house but failed to nab Sabir. Zafar was booked under Section 216 of the IPC for giving shelter to a criminal.
