VADODARA: Just a day before tying nuptial knot, Falguni Parmar from Vadodara travelled all the way to Dahod to appear for the village panchayat secretary (talati-cum-mantri) class III exam that was conducted across the state by the Gujarat Panchayat Service Selection Board on Sunday.
Dressed in traditional attire, Falguni, who is scheduled to get married on Monday, headed straight to R N L Pandya High School, her exam centre in Dahod, 150km away from Vadodara, to appear for the examination as soon as she completed pre-marriage rituals, including Ganesh sthapna and pithi ceremony at her home.
“Marriage is an important occasion of life, but education and career too are equally important to achieve one’s goals. For me, both are equally important and hence immediately after completing pre-marriage rituals I reached the exam centre,” said Falguni, a resident of Vadodara’s Gotri area, who wants to bag a government job.
Falguni, 24, a student of masters in economics at M S University, has already lost her father. “We supported and gave her all the love. She is good at studies and wants to do a government job. We completed the pre-marriage rituals early so that she can reach the exam centre on time,” said Falguni’s maternal uncle Kamlesh Parmar, adding that a Muslim friend supported them by bringing them to Dahod in his car.
