Gujarat BJP Valsad vice president Shailesh Patel shot dead by motorbike-borne assailants
The incident took place at around 7.30 am when he was waiting for his wife to return from a temple near Vapi town in Valsad district.

Gujarat BJP worker and vice president of Valsad Shailesh Patel on Monday was shot dead allegedly by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants while waiting for his wife in his Sports Utility Vehcile (SUV).
The incident took place at around 7.30 am when he was waiting for his wife to return from a temple near Vapi town in Valsad district.
While expressing grief over the incident, BJP’s Vapi Taluka unit president Suresh Patel said the. motorbike-borne assailants came near the SUV of Shailesh Patel in Kocharva village and fired three-four rounds at him.
Dungara police station officials said Patel went with his wife to temple to offer prayers. After praying, he came out and was waiting in his SUV for his wife. He also claimed there were four assailants who arrived at the spot on two motorbikes.
When Patel’s wife heard the noise, she rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood and screamed for help. He was immediately rushed to a private hosoital in Vapi where doctors declared him brought dead.
Local BJP leaders expressed shock and grief and demanded a probe into the incident. The police are investigating the matter and are also examining the CCTV footage of the area.
Last month, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Surendra Matiala was shot dead at his office in the national capital’s Dwarka area by two unidentified assailants. Reports state two assailants with their faces covered had reached Matiala’s office and opened fire at the BJP leader.
They fired 10 rounds at Matiala before fleeing. The BJP leader was declared brought dead at the hospital where he was rushed.
Matiala, a resident of the Uttam Nagar area, was also the co-in-charge of the Najafgarh Kisan Morcha. He had also contested the MCD elections on a BJP ticket.

Manipur violence: CM N Biren Singh appeals for peace as 60 people killed, 1700 houses burned
Violence in multiple parts of Manipur started after a Tribal Solidarity March that was organised by the tribals of areas under the aegis of All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM).

Amid the ongoing disturbance in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday urged people to maintain peace in the state. He noted that as many as 60 people have lost their lives, 231 sustained injuries, and almost 1,700 houses were burned down in the violence that started on May 3.
Speaking to the media he appealed to everyone to bring peace and calm to the state. He also said transportation for stranded people to their respective locations has been started.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Manipur and Central governments to take measures and raise security, relief, and rehabilitation efforts for the violence-hit areas in the northeastern state.
Due to the violence, Union Home Minister Amit Shah cancelled his campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Elections scheduled for May 3. Reports said Shah is monitoring the situation and cancelled all his poll meetings and conducted multiple meetings via video conferencing with Manipur officials.
Earlier, the Mizoram government sent charter planes to evacuate its residents stranded in violence-hit areas in Manipur. He also urged the central and Manipur governments to make more efforts in order to end mob violence in the state of Mizoram.
Violence in multiple parts of Manipur started after a Tribal Solidarity March that was organised by the tribals of areas under the aegis of All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM). Protestors demanded for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for non-tribal Meiteis who dominate the Imphal Valley.

The Kerala Story: Mamata Banerjee bans Sudipto Sen’s film in West Bengal
Last week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the film tax-free in the state.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee banned the controversial film, The Kerala Story, in the state on Monday. Helmed by Sudipto Sen, the film stars Adah Sharma, Siddhi Idnani, Yogita Bihani, and Sonia Balani in lead roles and has triggered a massive debate on social media regarding its credibility.
Speaking to the media, CM Banerjee said the West Bengal government has decided to ban The Kerala Story to avoid any incident of hatred and violence and to maintain peace in the state.
She also called the film a distorted story.
The Kerala Story producer Vipul Shah reacts to the ban
Reacting to the pan, the film’s producer Vipul Shah decided to take legal action against the move and said the makers will fight whatever is possible under the provisions of the law.
Meanwhile, The Kerala Story’s release was halted in theatres of Tamil Nadu. President of Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association, M Subramaniam, said the locally-owned multiplexes decided not to show the film as it does not feature any popular star. He said the film did not do well in a few districts following which theatres decided to pull it down as it is not worth the threat of protests.
Madhya Pradesh announces The Kerala Story tax-free
Last week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the film tax-free. In a video, CM Chouhan said the film exposed the horrific truth of terrorism and how the life of daughters are trapped by love jihad. He said the film exposed the design of terrorism and creates awareness about conversion, therefore, should be watched by everyone.
Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan slammed the makers and said the film is a product of the Sangh Parivar’s factory and a result of divisive politics using fake stories through such films.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Karnataka, said The Kerala Story exposes terror conspiracies in the state. He took a dig at the Congress and said the party is standing with such terror elements that have destroyed the nation from within.
