Kanpur: The commissionerate police have arrested a person for committing cyber fraud of Rs 1.67 lakh with his alleged girlfriend’s father. During the investigation, it came to fore that the accused stole the SIM card of the victim’s mobile phone to withdraw the money by creating a clone account of his Paytm account.
Govind Nagar police station in-charge Dhananjay Pandey said that on April 12, Virendra Singh, a resident of Sewagram Colony, Dada Nagar, had lodged a complaint of cyber fraud, wherein someone had withdrawn money worth Rs 1.67 lakh from his Paytm account. Police on the basis of preliminary findings arrested one Vishal Kumar, a resident of Baradevi’s Ravidas Nagar.
“During interrogation, Vishal revealed that he was friends with the daughter of the complainant Virendra Singh. One day he borrowed the mobile phone of his girlfriend’s father on the pretext of a call and stole the SIM card. After this, he obtained a new SIM and withdrew Rs 1.67 lakh by creating a clone account of his Paytm. The police have arrested the miscreant and sent him to jail after producing him in the court,” said Pandey further.
