    The medical entrance exam was scheduled to be held on Sunday

    The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday postponed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination for undergraduate courses in Manipur amid ongoing violence that broke out on Wednesday, reported ANI. Notably, the NEET-UG was scheduled to be held on Sunday. The agency said candidates who were allotted exam centers in Manipur will be given a later date, which hasn't been announced yet.

    Education Ministry requested NTA to reschedule exam

    The move comes after Union Minister of State for the Education Ministry, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, wrote a letter to the NTA and urged it to "explore the possibility of rescheduling" the exam in the wake of the situation in Manipur. According to PTI, the state's death toll due to violent clashes has risen to 54, while hundreds of people have been reportedly injured.

    Shops, markets reopen in Imphal in military's presence

    On Saturday, shops and markets reopened in Manipur's capital city of Imphal, and vehicles were reported seen moving on the roads. A defense spokesperson said that 13,000 people were rescued and shifted to safe shelters in the state. Moreover, nearly 10,000 personnel of the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles have been deployed amid ethnic violence between tribals and the majority Meitei community.
