PUNE: A 30-year-old resident of Kalthan near Indapur, who responded to a call for help after four men robbed two cellphones from his neighbour's home, later found his own house burgled of ornaments worth Rs 4.6 lakh early on Thursday morning.
Sagar Redake of Kalthan, who lodged a complaint with the Indapur police, stated that one of the four men was involved in both the neighbour's robbery as well the burglary at his house.
The police have registered the case under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-break in by night in order to commit offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Assistant police inspector Yogesh Langute of the Indapur police told TOI that according to the complainant, around 1am on Thursday, his neighbour Navnath Metkari called him and informed that four men, including one person from Kalthan, had barged into his home. They threatened him with sharp weapons and told him to hand over valuables to them.
"When Metkari's relatives woke up after hearing the commotion, the men thrashed Metkari and fled with two cellphones worth Rs20,000. The complainant rushed to Metkari's house and they carried out searches for the man from their village. When Redake returned to his residence around 2.30am after a futile search, he found that his own house had been burgled," Langute said.
He added that Redake found three rooms in his house were locked from outside and the lock of the fourth room was broken. "While Redake was heading towards that room, he saw the suspect from his village, who was hiding near the room. The latter then ran away from there," Langute said.
Redake woke up his family members and checked the cupboard in the room. He found that gold ornaments worth Rs4.60 lakh were missing, the officer said.
