Mizoram: BJP nominee for CADC election, Amit Kumar Chakma, killed in clash

AIZAWL: Former chief executive member (CEM) and BJP candidate for the coming Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) election, Amit Kumar Chakma, was killed in a pre-poll violence resulting in cancellation of the election in Rengkashya constituency.
Election to the CADC was scheduled to be held on May 9. While polling in other constituencies will take place on Tuesday, elections in Rengkashya will now be held on May 17. Counting of votes is on May 19.
Police said AK Chakma was killed during a clash between supporters of BJP and Mizo National Front (MNF) at Lokhysury village at 11 pm on Thursday.
He was hacked to death. Those who were injured have been identified as Lokhi Ram Chakma (35), Moi moi Chakma (27), Subash Chakma (22), Bakra Joy (34), Tridip Chakma (30) and Shanti Moy (17) sustained injuries, police said. The condition of Lokhi Ram Chakma is stated to be serious.
A criminal case was registered at Vaseitlang PS and MNF official candidate for Rengkashya Prema Ranjan Chakma was arrested.
