Panaji: A 11-year-old Goan boy stranded in violence-hit Manipur was rescued through the joint effort of Goa police, Manipur police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The boy’s father is a Goan, while the mother is a Manipur native.
“Goa police coordinated the rescue of the child who was stranded in Bishnupur district of Manipur at his maternal grandparents’ home due to the ongoing clashes, whereas his parents were in Goa,” director general of police (DGP) Jaspal Singh said.
The chief minister’s office (CMO) had assigned the responsibility to Goa police to coordinate with Manipur police and ensure that the boy can reach the airport safely. Since the local police were engaged in handling the large-scale violence, CRPF were simultaneously contacted, DGP said.
“Since the situation was volatile, the force was worried about the child’s security. At one point in time, it appeared difficult as going into the interior areas was fraught with risk. It was decided to let the kid stay put,” the DGP said.
However, considering the parents’ anxiety, officers at the senior-most level were contacted by the Goa DGP, and the boy was picked up from the village and handed over to another Goan resident who was also stuck in Manipur.
Both of them safely boarded the flight from Imphal airport for Delhi, police said.
