Prakhar Bindal, an owner of the MG Gloster, a flagship SUV of the British brand owned by Chinese automaker SAIC, recently took to Twitter and shared his ordeal. According to Mr. Bindal, his MG Gloster luxury SUV – serviced just 10 days ago and with no external fitments – burned down to a crisp in the middle of Delhi roads. Mr. Bindal alleges that he’s been ‘seeking justice’ from MG Motor for the past 10 days and that the automaker has been unresponsive so far.

Here’s a link to his Tweet,

Apart from social media handles of MG Motor, Mr Bindal has also tagged the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Transport Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office, aiming for quick resolution. While cars catching fire is not new, it’s unusual for a new car that’s been serviced just 10 days ago to burn to a crisp.

Also, cars without external modifications or extra fitments burning down is a cause of concern as this could indicate a manufacturing defect or an engineering design issue. We sincerely hope that MG Motor quickly gets to the bottom of this matter and resolves this issue to the satisfaction of the aggrieved customer Mr. Prakhar Bindal.

The MG Gloster is the flagship vehicle sold by the automaker in the Indian market. It’s a 7 seat luxury SUV that rivals market leader Toyota Fortuner. The Gloster has massive street presence and comes with a boat load of features making it the best equipped SUV in its class. The cabin of the Gloster is quite luxurious and the SUV comes with a premium fit and finish.

It’s spacious and comfortable, and the soft suspension gives it a much better ride quality than its direct rival – the Toyota Fortuner. The feature list includes the ADAS suite with high-tech cameras and sensors to offer features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and automatic parking assist,  64 colour ambient colour option, three-zone climate control system, a massive panoramic sunroof and a driver seat massager.

It’s powered by a 2 liter-4 cylinder twin turbocharged diesel engine that puts out 158 Bhp of peak power and 375 Nm of peak torque. While these numbers are significantly lower than than of the Fortuner, which uses a 2.8 liter turbo diesel engine that produces 500 Nm of brute torque, the 8 speed torque converter automatic gearbox on the Gloster ensures that progress is quick. The Gloster is available with rear wheel drive and four wheel drive options. On-road Delhi prices for the body-on-ladder SUV start from Rs. 38.8 lakh for the base trim, going all the way up to Rs. 50.36 lakh for the top-end trims.
