Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu spent time in the lap of nature watching wildlife at Chahala, a core area of Similipal Tiger Reserve, on the second day of her visit to Mayurbhanj district on Friday.
The sylvan beauty of Similipal and local delicacies awaited the daughter of Odisha as the local community members from the Eco-development Committee (EDC) gave a quiet welcome to the president as it is a wildlife zone.
Wearing a jacket and hat, President Murmu roamed around the place. According to forest officials, she went wildlife sighting in a vehicle. She used a binocular and sighted some animals, an official said.
“President Droupadi Murmu visited Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. A place with rich diversity and wildlife, the tiger reserve is the only natural habitat in the world to protect the rare melanistic tigers, popularly known as black tigers,” the president’s office tweeted soon after her visit to Similipal.
Murmu’s lunch menu was full of traditional cuisine made from locally available vegetables. Chahala was decked up for the president’s welcome. The presidential suite had been kept ready at the guesthouse for her lunch and rest.
Later, the president left for Baripada where she will put up at the circuit house. On Saturday, she will attend the 12th convocation of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University.
