NEW DELHI/JAMMU: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday departed from the national capital for Jammu to review the situation in the ongoing encounter beween security forces and terrorists in Rajouri's Kandi area.
This comes a day after five soldiers were killed during the anti-terror 'Operation Trinetra' of the Indian Army with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF.
The deceased soldiers are Lance Naik Ruchin Singh Rawat, Paratrooper Siddhant Chettri, Naik Arvind Kumar, Hav Neelam Singh, and Paratrooper Pramod Negi.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha this morning paid tribute to the five Army personnel who lost their lives on Friday when terrorists triggered an explosive device during the Rajouri encounter.
The Indian Army is conducting operations to flush out a group of terrorists involved in an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in the Jammu region about a fortnight ago, where another five soldiers lost lives.
Rajouri encounter: Terrorist killed, top Army commander reviews anti-terror operation
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Army's Northern Command, Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the ongoing anti-terror operation in J&K's Rajouri district in which one terrorist was killed on Saturday.
Five soldiers were killed on Friday in a gunfight with the terrorists in the Kandi forests of Rajouri district.
Gunfire contact was established with the terrorists again on Saturday as firing exchanges continued between the Army and the hiding terrorists.
LeT militant killed in encounter in J&K's Baramulla
A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
After receiving information about the presence of militants in the Karhama Kunzer area of Baramulla, a cordon and search operation was launched, a police official said.
It turned into an encounter after militants fired upon the forces who retaliated. One militant was killed in the exchange of fire, the official said.
