‘Anil Dujana was going to turn self in when he was whisked away by STF and shot’

NOIDA: Dujana village remained tense on Friday as a crowd gathered for the last rites of gangster Anil Dujana, who was killed in an encounter by the special task force (STF) in Meerut.
Surrounded by a huge posse of policemen, Dujana’s body was brought to the village from Meerut in the morning. His relatives and neighbours gathered around the gangster’s ancestral house and a group of women wailed in one corner.
With Dujana’s increasing notoriety, his family had vacated the ancestral house, which remained locked for almost a decade.
On Friday, the locks were opened by neighbours and the overgrown bushes and shrubs uprooted to make arrangements for the last rites.
While most villagers declined to comment on the gangster’s encounter, his brother, Om Prakash Singh Nagar, alleged that Dujana was on his way to surrender atKarkardooma court when the STF whisked him away and shot him dead.
“Yes, he had criminal charges against him. But after getting bail recently, he was not involved in any scuffle, extortion or threats. We got to know about his encounter around 4pm from news channels. A homemaker had framed him in a false case, alleging that my brother had issued her threats after coming out on bail,” Om Prakash said.
Brijesh Singh, the commanding officer of the UP STF in Meerut, said, “There is no truth in the allegations. Everything is done here in keeping with the law. A magisterial probe has also been ordered in the case.”
A huge police team was deployed in the village as the body was cremated around 3.30pm. “One company of the PAC (provincial armed constabulary) and around 75 police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order. There was no untoward incident and the last rites were performed peacefully,” said Rambadan Singh, deputy commissioner of police (central Noida).
