Dumka: Police arrested the husband of a 35-year-old woman belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) of Godda district’s Nathgoda village under Sundarpahadi police station whose body was recovered from a nearby hilltop forest on Thursday.
The deceased Surji Pahadin was suspected to have been murdered brutally by her husband Suresh Pahadiya as her face was crushed with stones to conceal identity.
The body was found abandoned by the villagers who informed the police.
Police said the husband of the deceased woman was absconding since the recovery of her body suggesting foul play on his part. However, he was arrested from his native Nathgoda village the same evening.
"The accused Suresh Pahadiya has confessed to have killed his wife following a heated argument over some domestic dispute," Krishna Kumar, the inspector of police and officer in-charge (OC) of the Sundarpahadi police station told the TOI over phone adding that the accused was forwarded to the jail on Friday.
The OC further said that the FIR in this connection was lodged by Mahadin Pahadin, the mother of the deceased woman.
"The blood-stained stone slab has also been recovered from near the spot where the dead body of the woman was found, on such instance of the accused," the OC stated.
Police believe that the woman was murdered sometime on the previous night of the recovery of her body. The body has been sent for the postmortem examination at Sadar Hospital Godda and the medical report is still awaited.
