Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik requested Union highway minister Nitin Gadkari for four-laning of the road towards Kolhapur airport from the Ujalaiwadisection of Pune-Bengaluru national highway.
KOLHAPUR: Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik requested Union highway minister Nitin Gadkari for four-laning of the road towards Kolhapur airport from the Ujalaiwadisection of Pune-Bengaluru national highway.
This request has been made considering the development and expansion of the Kolhapur airport and the increase in daily flights from the same facility.
The minister arrived in Kolhapur on Thursday while he was on his tour to Borgaon in Chikkodi tehsil of Karnataka's Belgavi district for their state election campaign.
Mahadik accompanied him from Borgaon to Kolhapur.
The MP said the Rs840 crore work of four-laning of the Kolhapur (Shiroli) to Sangli (Ankali) stretch on National Highway-166 is incomplete as the contractor of the road has moved court.
Due to the increase in traffic, the number of accidents has also increased significantly on this road stretch. Taking immediate note, Gadkari has ordered to appoint a new contractor for this road.
After getting all the information regarding the development works of Kolhapur airport, Gadkari said connectivity of Kolhapur airport with Nagpur and Indore is in the pipeline and is likely to commence from next month, said MP Mahadik.
