Out on bail, Anil Dujana threatened witnesses in Delhi
Anil Dujana has been the face of organised crimes in Delhi-NCR
NOIDA: No sooner had Anil Dujana walk out on bail last month than the calls went out. The first on the list were witnesses in murder cases linked to him and the Randeep Bhati gang.
"Jail se bahaar hoon. Jaldi se 50 lakh bhar warna tu aur tera mama dono ko maar dunga (I am out of jail. Pay up Rs 50 lakh now or I'll kill both you and your uncle)," Anil told a Delhi resident's nephew on April 27.
The Delhi resident, a former contractor, has seen two family members being killed, allegedly by the Randeep gang, in 2012 and 2013. He and his nephew have been listed as witnesses.
On April 27, the Delhi resident told TOI, a man had stopped his nephew on the road and made him talk to Dujana, who worked with Randeep Bhati, over a WhatsApp call.
On April 28, the former contractor informed UP Police about the threat.
"The case goes back to 2004, when four local gangsters had fired at my brother. An attempt to murder case was registered against them at Dadri police station. All the four were sent to jail. But they came out on bail later," the Delhi resident said.
On June 27, 2012, there was a second attack, this time on the former contractor, his brother-in-law and brother in Greater Noida's Pi 3. "My brother and I escaped, but my brother-in-law died in the firing. We lodged a case at Kasna police station and one of the shooters, Pratap, was later sentenced to a life term by a court. In 2013, some of them along with Randeep Bhati killed my brother," he said.
During the April 27 call, Anil allegedly told the man's nephew that they had weapons ready to eliminate them. "He also said that his gang was keeping a close watch on us and we'd be killed if we didn't pay him Rs 50 lakh," he said.
Anil's death in a police encounter in Meerut on Thursday hasn't calmed the nerves of the former contractor, who said he is "all the more scared now". "I think (Randeep) Bhati will look for revenge," he said. Randeep is in Delhi's Mandoli jail.
In the days since Anil got bail this April, police received one more complaint from a woman, also a witness in a murder case. "He (Anil) killed my husband in 2012. On April 19 this year, my brother-in-law and I were returning home along with a gunner after a hearing at the Surajpur court. All of a sudden, a car overtook our vehicle and stopped ahead of us. Out walked Anil Dujana. I thought he was in Ayodhya jail and hadn't heard about his bail. He threatened me against testifying in court. For the past 11 years, there have been over 230 hearing dates. But my life is still under threat," she said in her police complaint.
After that, Anil was booked under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult and provocation) and 506 (threat to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC.
