JAIPUR: Five persons, including two women, were arrested for allegedly extorting Rs 2.20 lakh from a 73-year-old professor after locking him up with a girl and threatening to release photos of him on social media.
DCP East Gyan Chand Yadav said the victim had filed a complaint last month that a gang first waylaid him when he was going to buy vegetables in Kho Nagoriyan.
The gang locked him up with a girl and clicked his photos which they later used to blackmail him.
Yadav said police busted the gang and arrested the accused identified as Anita Devi (25), a resident of Bharatpur, Kunj Bihari Meena (21), a native of Karauli, Manoj Kumar Meena (22), a resident of Dausa, and Pooja (24), a resident of Ajmer.
Police claimed the accused used to abduct affluent persons and click their photos with women members of the gang.
"The accused used to also click pictures and edit them. Several of their victims did not come forward to file FIRs which further emboldened the gang," Yadav said. Police also suspect the gang was involved in multiple incidents of extortion across the city. "We are interrogating the accused for their record," said an official.
