BAHRAICH: Five persons were killed and ten sustained injuries when a truck rammed into an autorickshaw in Bahraich on Friday.
All the victims were occupants of the auto and were returning from a 'tilak' ceremony when the accident took place at 3.00 am under the Kaiserganj police station. The deceased were identified as Bhagwan Prasad (45), Anil Lal (13), Khushboo (24), Harish Chandra (38) and Jai Karan (35).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to reach the spot and ensure best possible medical assistance to the injured.
SHO, Kaiserganj, Daddan Singh said: "One Mansharam and his relatives had gone to Ruknapur village on an auto for the 'tilak' ceremony. While returning, a tipper truck coming from the Bahraich side hit their auto, carrying 15 passengers, near a private hospital on Lucknow-Bahraich road."
Singh said that such was the impact that the auto was reduced to a pulp. The driver of the truck fled away after the accident.
The SHO said that a police team reached the spot and rushed all the injured to hospital where five were declared brought dead. The injured were admitted to the district hospital.
District magistrate, Bahraich, Dinesh Chandra, too, reached the hospital along with additional district magistrate Anirudh Pratap Singh and inquired about the well-being of the injured.
