Two men die in separate Bronx shootings: NYPD

Two men were killed in separate Bronx shootings early Saturday, police said.

Both killings were reported to police at the exact same time — 4:30 a.m. — and involved 29-year-old men, but occurred about three miles apart from each other, according to cops.

Cops responding to a 911 call at E. 139th St. and Morris Ave. in Mott Haven found a man fatally shot in the right eye, cops said.

The man died at the scene. Cops did not disclose his name as they track down his relatives.

Detectives found some marijuana at the scene and the victim had a criminal record, but it wasn’t immediately clear if either played a role in the shooting.

The gunman who shot the victim ran off, cops said. No arrests have been made.

Within seconds, a second 29-year-old man was brought into St. Barnabas Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, cops said.

Doctors immediately rendered care, but the victim couldn’t be saved, cops said. His name wasn’t disclosed.

Cops recovered a pistol from the victim, who was brought to the hospital by his brother, a police source with knowledge of the case said.

Detectives later determined that the victim, who also had a criminal record, was shot on Third Ave. and E. 180th St, about two blocks from the hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Cops were scouring both locations for surveillance footage that can help them identify the two shooters.

The two murders come as the Bronx experiences a 23% drop in murders and a 40% drop in shootings this year.

By the end of April, detectives were investigating 36 homicides in the borough — 11 fewer than this time last year, cops said. Cops had also responded to 81 shootings, 54 fewer than the 135 reported last year.

Despite the drops, the Bronx alone is responsible for a third of the city’s 125 homicides this year, cops said. The borough was also home to 27% of the city’s 294 shootings, cops said.

The Bronx has the second highest number of shootings this year, trailing behind Brooklyn, where 105 shootings occurred, cops said.
