Boy falls into lift duct in Thane's Kalyan, dies

KALYAN: A 13-year-old boy died after he fell into the duct of a lift from the fifth floor in a housing complex in Gandhari area of Kalyan on Wednesday night.
The victim has been identified as Himanshu Kanojia, a class VI student. His father runs a laundry and the boy had gone to collect clothes from a shopkeeper who lives on the sixth floor of the Ridhi Sidhi building when the incident happened.
The police said after the boy boarded the lift, it got stuck between fifth and sixth floors apparently due to a technical glitch. Himanshu somehow opened the door and tried to come out on the fifth floor but he slipped and fell from the duct to the ground floor. He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead. The local Khadakpada police said that they have registered an accidental death report.
