3rd man charged with threatening Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood extradited to Daytona Beach

The third out-of-state man accused of threatening Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood in recent months is now in Volusia County.

Cristhian Zapata, of Ansonia, Connecticut, landed Thursday night at Daytona Beach International Airport, according to social media posts from the sheriff's office.

Unlike the other two suspects, Zapata, 23, upon his arrival, wasn't greeted by Chitwood.

"Sorry I wasn’t able to join the welcoming committee this time. Enjoy your stay," the sheriff tweeted.

Zapata was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail about 11:20 p.m. Thursday on a charge of making a written threat to kill or do bodily injury, court records show. Zapata is being held on $100,000 bail.

The Connecticut resident is accused of writing "I WILL KILL CHITWOOD, MARK MY WORDS" on 4chan on April 7, according to law enforcement.
