Candidate cries foul as his ‘Russian dancer and booze request’ goes viral

Kanpur: Strange tactics are being employed by candidates to defeat their rivals in the run-up to the urban local body elections. An application dated May 1, addressed to the returning officer (RO) has gone viral on the social media platforms, in which a candidate has sought permission to organise a Russian dance show and serve free liquor to voters. The application carries the signature of the candidate. Along with the letter, a video has gone viral of a Russian girl dancing.
The candidate in question, Sanjay Dubey, contesting as an independent candidate from ward no: 30 Ambedkar nagar in Kakadeo, has, however, denied he wrote such an application. He claimed it was a mischief aimed at tarnishing his image and said he had contacted the district election commission and sought an inquiry into the matter. The administration has handed over the investigation of the case to additional city magistrate Jang Bahadur.
On May 11, vote will be cast for mayor and corporator posts in the Kanpur Municipal Corporation.
