GURGAON: Traffic police are planning to survey the streets to identify the city’s most congested stretches. The survey will be conducted by road safety officers and traffic cops, after which a road map to unclog perennially congested stretches and junctions will be prepared, officers said on Thursday.
According to traffic police, around 20 spots in the city report snarls on a regular basis. The survey is expected to cover areas like Bakhtawar Chowk, Galleria market road, Mahavir Chowk, Artemis Road, Old Delhi road and Old Railway road, among others.
A detailed study of these pain points will be conducted to understand the reason behind the jams.
“There are a few places where people have to face snarls every morning and evening. After a survey of all these areas, a detailed report will be prepared explaining the reasons behind the jams. Based on the report, steps will be taken to smoothen traffic movement,” said a senior police officer.
DCP (traffic) Virender Vij said a large part of the city has been made free from congestion, but there are still some areas which report snarls. “Traffic police are making efforts to ensure all roads, including internal roads, are free of congestion and vehicles can move without obstruction or delays. A survey will be conducted to identify such areas and find out possible solutions,” the DCP said.
Officers said efforts have already been taken to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Changes in road design have been made at several major traffic junctions, including Rajiv Chowk, IMT Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, MDI Chowk and Shankar Chowk, they said.
“Over the years, several underpasses and flyovers have been constructed. They have helped in reducing congestion on major roads. Now, efforts are being made to avoid jams on internal roads too,” a senior traffic police officer said.
Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 50, said the stretch from Bhaktawar Chowk to Cloud Nine Hospital is always choked.
“The area near Good Earth mall and South City-2 remains congested too,” said Kumar, adding that authorities should make some effort to ensure smooth traffic movement in these areas.
