Drugs worth over Rs 5 cr meant to be delivered in Delhi

Panaji: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), on Friday, informed that it has arrested a Kenyan national,

Samuel at the Goa Dabolim airport with 1 kg of cocaine, worth over `5 crore, which was meant to be delivered to a person in New Delhi.

During the follow-up action in New Delhi, the NCB arrested the receiver

James EC, a Nigerian national, a kingpin in the drug trade, said NCB officials.

Samuel had concealed the drugs in the false bottom of the trolley bag, informed the NCB.

Incidentally, this is the third biggest drug seizure by the NCB’s Goa unit in the last few days.

Amit Ghawate, zonal director of NCB, Mumbai said that during the intervening night of April 3 and 4, Samuel was intercepted at Dabolim, Goa airport by the customs officials on suspicion for

concealment of some non-metallic substance in his baggage.

“The person travelled to India from Johannesburg (SA) via Dubai. Information in this regard was immediately passed by the customs officials to the NCB, Goa and subsequently, a team of the NCB, Goa reached the Dabolim airport,” said Ghawate.

During the search, cocaine in two packets, weighing 1.009 kg was recovered, he said adding the drug packets were concealed in the false bottom of his trolley bag.

“Instant investigation in this case revealed that the seized consignment of cocaine was supposed to be delivered to someone at New Delhi.

Immediately, follow-up was planned by the NCB, Goa in coordination with the NCB, Delhi unit,” said Ghawate.

He further said that after continued intensive analysis and field surveillance for last 24 hours, the main kingpin/ receiver James EC was apprehended on Friday by the NCB team in Delhi.
