Celebratory firing claims two lives in Supaul, Vaishali districts

PATNA: Two persons, including a member of a dance troupe, were killed in two separate incidents of celebratory firing in Supaul and Vaishali districts on Wednesday night.
A 22-year-old dancer died on the spot after a bullet fired by the groom's brother hit him accidentally during a wedding procession at Kua Tola under Marauna police station area in Supaul district. The deceased was identified as Subhash Yadav, a resident of Tetariahi village under Nadi police station area.
According to police, the incident took place around 10pm, when the accused Vipin Kumar (20) was waving his illegal weapon in the air while members of the dance troupe were performing in the wedding procession. A bullet accidentally fired from Vipin's pistol and hit the dancer in the chest, killing him on the spot.
As a video of the incident went viral after the incident, villagers also protested against the incident and demanded arrest of the accused. The police recovered the body and sent it for the postmortem.
"The wedding procession of Mahesh Yadav's son was going from Mangasihaul village to Tullapati village under Alinagar police station area in Darbhanga district on Wednesday night, when the incident happened. The accused has been absconding after the incident," SHO Dayanand Kumar Mahto told TOI.
"The accused has been booked under IPC sections 34 and 302, and section 27 of the Arms Act. The police are conducting raids to nab the groom's brother," he added.
In the second incident, groom's uncle Ranjeet Paswan (54) was killed during the celebratory firing at Shrirampur village under Raghopur police station area in Vaishali district. The police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Pintu Paswan (23), nephew of the deceased, while another accused has been absconding.
Raghopur SHO Sanjeet Kumar said the incident took place during the wedding procession of Upendra Paswan's son Shravan Kumar. "The procession was ready to go to Kala Diyara village in Patna and 'baratis' were dancing, when Pintu and his cousin Vikas Kumar, elder brother of the groom, started firing in the air. But, a bullet accidentally hit their uncle Ranjeet, who died on the way to a hospital," the SHO said.
