ED arrests social welfare director

Ranchi: The enforcement directorate (ED) arrested IAS officer and director of the social welfare department, Chhavi Ranjan, after interrogating him for over 10 hours at its zonal office here on Thursday.
The ED arrested Ranjan under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the case related to grabbing of government and the private land in the city. ED sources said Ranjan was not cooperating during the questioning.
Ranjan was arrested at 9:55 pm. He arrived at the ED office at 11 am and recorded his statements on various questions raised by the central agency till late evening.
Earlier, at about 9:30 pm Ranjan’s lawyer, Abhishek Krishna, arrived at the ED office with his team of advocates. Talking to media after coming out, Krishna said he had come to meet his client but was not allowed. “I am his lawyer and I will meet him after a while,” he said.
