TRICHY: Trichy corporation has floated a tender to construct a model corporation
school at E Pudur and revised its fund allocation from Rs 6.5 crore to Rs 9.9 crore. As the school is designed with provisions to expand, the local body and education department said the new campus may become a higher secondary corporation school, the third such facility in the city.
Officials said about 2.9 acres of land has been identified for the school and the fund for it is being sourced from the corporation’s education fund. Compared to other local body schools, the proposed school will have larger classrooms and an assembly area with an open-stage auditorium in the middle of the academic blocks.
For now, officials said that 16 classrooms, a lab and two staff rooms are planned on the ground floor and it would be the same on the first and second floors too, based on needs. “The school’s design was conceived to facilitate wider corridors, staircases, natural lighting and open-air ventilation.
The appearance and facilities such as smart classrooms will be on par with private schools. We will complete the work before the next academic year,” a corporation official said. The school which is likely to have about 35,000 square feet of built-up space is intended to serve as a model for upcoming schools.
The existing corporation elementary school and high school at Kaliammankoil street in E Pudur is cramped due to shortage of classrooms. Since there is a spurt in enrolment, class VI to class X will be relocated to the upcoming school soon after civil work is complete.
There are around 1,500 students presently studying at E Pudur elementary school and high school, both situated on the same campus.
“Once the students in class VI to class X are moved to the new school, for which a tender has been floated, the existing school in Kaliammankoil street, E Pudur with 22 classrooms can be fully utilised for anganwadi and elementary school students,” R Jayalakshmi, block education officer, said.
