Dibrugarh: A Tinsukia man, who was arrested in Arunachal Pradesh’s Deomali town on Thursday for allegedly raping and murdering a minor girl, was injured in a police encounter.
Police said he was shot in both the legs as he tried to escape from their custody while they were on the way to Margherita police station.
The accused had dumped the body of the 12-year-old girl in a septic tank near his housein the Tinsukia district on Wednesday.
Police said he was was hiding in Deomali town of Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district after committing the crime. They added that the accused’s wife has confessed that her husband raped and murdered the girl and dumped the body in the septic tank.
Police said the girl and her mother had gone to watch a Bihu programme on Monday night. While returning home late in the night, they stopped by at the house of the accused as both the families knew each other. As the girl was feeling sleepy, the mother decided to leave her there for the night and told the family that she would pick up the girl the day.
