IPL betting racket: Police conduct raids; arrest 24, recover Rs 1.4 lakh in cash

GURGAON: Police have busted a gang involved in betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches and arrested 24 people. Cops said several teams have been conducting raids across the city to crack down on illegal betting on IPL matches since March 31.
Six FIRs have been filed against the 24 accused, police said on Thursday.
“So far, we have found at least six cases of alleged betting on IPL matches. A total of 24 youths have been arrested for illegal betting and an investigation has been launched to find more details about their network,” police spokesperson Subhash Boken said.
Police have recovered cash amounting to Rs 1.4 lakh, 56 mobile phones, five laptops and six laptop chargers, six LED TVs and one video recorder from the accused, as well as three registers used for betting.
“Investigation into the allegations is ongoing,” Boken added.
