10 things to know about offline contactless debit card payments

For contactless purchases up to Rs 5000, there is no PIN requirement. You can still touch the card to conduct contactless payments up to Rs 5000, but PIN entry is required. Additionally, up to INR 2000 in offline payments are possible with the card.

Below are the following ways to enable the offline contactless payments:

· By directly applying for the NCMC Contactless RUPAY Debit Card (With Offline Enabled) at your base branch after submitting duly filled debit card application or through Online channels viz Website, Mobile Banking and Internet Banking .

· If you are an existing NCMC Contactless RUPAY Debit Card holder, your card is ready for Offline payment functionality.

Card balance can be topped up via “Money Add” channels, which can be done in following ways:

Money Add Cash- You can go to a transit station or a kiosk that is authorised to top up the card balance (money load transaction). You must give the merchant/operator the amount to be topped up in cash, and the operator will complete a money add transaction from the POS equipment to top up the card balance.

Money Add Account- You can top up the card with a savings account at any transit station, merchant, operator, or kiosk. To top up the card balance, the operator will execute this money add from the POS equipment. The amount of the top-up will be debited from the card associated CASA and added to the card balance.

Money Add via Online Channels- You must initiate a fund transfer from your debit card linked primary account balance to the card balance via the internet and mobile banking. Following a successful fund transfer, you must proceed to a specific touch point and tap your card against an online card reader. A balance update transaction will be required to reflect this top-up amount in the card balance.

The upper limit of an offline payment transaction shall be Rs 200 and shall change on time to time basis as per guidelines. The upper limit of an offline payment transaction is set at the merchant terminals.

Transit fare payment system including metros, buses etc., Toll payments, Parking area payments, Restaurants and other retail outlets wherever Offline mode of payments are made available.

PIN is not required for all offline contactless transactions up to Rs 2000 and all online contactless transactions up to Rs 5000. You may choose to dip the card followed by required PIN entry for any transactions over Rs 5000.

Yes, your RuPay contactless card is just as secure as the rest of your RuPay cards. It has a highly secure EMV chip and so cannot be easily copied. You do not need to hand over the card to the merchant; instead, you must touch the card on the terminal to complete the purchase. Offline payments must only be made in person (face to face).
