Core inflation, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, remains at 6.3 per cent, while the all-items index excluding energy has increased to 6.4 per cent. The year-on-year growth rate for goods has also gone up to 10.6 per cent, from 9.7 per cent in March.
The increase in NIC is mainly driven by the prices of non-regulated energy products and non-durable goods, which have risen by 2.4 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively. In contrast, the prices of regulated energy products have decreased by 19.3 per cent, as per Istat.
Meanwhile, the Italian harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) has increased by 1 per cent on a monthly basis and 8.8 per cent on an annual basis, mainly due to the end of the winter sales, which were not considered in the NIC index. The prices of clothing and footwear have increased by 4.8 per cent on the previous month due to the continuation of winter sales in March.
