Last week, Sooraj was acquitted in the suicide case of Jiah, after the late actress was found hanging at her Juhu home in Mumbai on June 3, 2013.
Pancholi was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide. Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge A S Sayyad found the actor not guilty as the prosecution had "miserably failed" to prove its case. The judge said, "Due to paucity of evidence, this court holds you (Sooraj) not guilty and hence acquitted."
Sooraj, the son of veteran actor Aditya Pancholi and actress Zarina Wahab, was present in court with his mother when the judgement was passed.
The court before pronouncing its order asked Sooraj to step into the witness box and said, "Due to paucity of evidence, this court holds you (Sooraj) not guilty and hence acquitted."
A day after the verdict, the actor welcomed the judgment in a statement and said it has finally brought him peace.
"The verdict has taken ten long painful years and sleepless nights. But today, I have not only won this case against me but I have also won my dignity and confidence back. It took a lot of courage to face the world with such heinous allegations and I hope and pray to God that nobody goes through what I have gone through at such a young age," Sooraj said.
The actor added that while he will not be getting back the ten years lost since the case was registered against him, he was glad that it has finally come to an end. "There is nothing bigger than peace in this world," he said.
Meanwhile, Jiah's mother Rabia Khan plans to appeal against the order in the High Court and said her battle seeking justice for her daughter will continue. "I will continue fighting. This judgment is not surprising and I had anticipated this. This is not a case of abetment of suicide...it is a case of murder," she was quoted as saying after the verdict.
Jiah made her acting debut in Bollywood with Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Nishabd', a remake of Vladimir Nabokov's 'Lolita' in 2007. She went on to act in movies like Aamir Khan-led 'Ghajini' (2008) and multi-starrer comedy 'Housefull' (2010).
