Long Beach man arrested on suspicion of distributing explicit photographs of Barstow student
A 22-year-old Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of sharing explicit photographs of a Barstow student online, according to authorities.
The investigation was sparked on February 2, when a Barstow Police Department School Resource Officer received a report regarding a man who had been distributing explicit photographs of a student through a social media site.
Barstow Detective Gemma Day began her investigation and obtained multiple electronic search warrants. Malcolm McClendon was eventually identified as the suspect.
The investigation revealed McClendon had contacted at least two children and asked for explicit photographs.
An arrest warrant was issued for McClendon, and Day was able to search his Long Beach home. During the search, detectives say they found more evidence that suggests McClendon is the suspect.
McClendon was arrested on Monday after Day's three-month investigation. He was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of contacting a minor for sexual purposes.
On Tuesday, McClendon was released on bail. He is not scheduled to appear in court, sheriff’s booking records show.
