36-year-old man dies of heart attack after playing garba in Gujarat

RAJKOT: The spate of young people dying of sudden cardiac arrest continues in the state.
A 36-year-old man died after suffering a heart attack after playing garba at a marriage function in the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Amit Chauhan.
The details of the incident came to light on Wednesday. “We were all playing dandiya raas and garba at a family marriage function. Amit looked healthy and did not show any signs of discomfort. However, after coming home, he complained of severe chest pain and we rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead,” his cousin Lakhman Chauhan said.
Chauhan had a small unit making dyes used in gold jewellery. A case of accidental death was registered in Malaviya Nagar police station Dr Radheshyam Trivedi,medical superintendent of Rajkot Civil Hospital, said “We get 8-10 cases of sudden cardiac arrests every day, and a majority of the patients are below the age of 45 years. This can be attributed to mental stress coupled with unhealthy lifestyle as well as internal damage caused due to Covid-19 infection. ”
Considering the increasing number of such cases, the hospital has augmented the cardiac issues-related facilities.
A little over a month ago, 31-year-old gram sevak collapsed and died of a heart attack while practising for a cricket tournament in Morbi. Similarly, a 26-year-old manager of a private firm met the same fate while casually sitting on his bike.
At least 10 young people have died of sudden heart attacks, mostly while playing some sport or engaging in strenuous physical activity, in Rajkot and Morbi in the past two-three months.
