PUNE: A Kondhwa Khurd resident (40) was arrested after his wife (35) lodged a police complaint accusing him of torturing, repeatedly raping and subjecting her to an unnatural offence on April 30.
She also accused the man of threatening their two daughters, aged 16 and 11 years, with rape, police said.
The woman said in her complaint that her husband was infuriated on noticing her carrying their daughter’s cellphone and suspected that she was talking to someone else. He dragged her into a room and tied her to a bed before inflicting burn wounds on her, the complainant told police.
She stated in her complaint that the man kept torturing and sexually abusing her as their two daughters and two sons cried for help and asked him to release her. Apart from the IPC charges, the police have invoked Pocso Act charges against the man.
He was produced before the court on Wednesday, which ordered his custodial remand till May 7.
Senior inspector Santosh Sonawane said, “The man is in the habit of subjecting his wife to cruelty. The wife had fled twice because of his harassment but returned to take care of her four children.”
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
