Man, 83, sexually abuses girl, held in Salem

SALEM: An 83-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in Salem town.
The Salem town all-woman police identified the arrested person as K Rangasamy, of Salem city.
According to an investigation officer, Rangasamy molested the minor girl when she visited his house on Tuesday evening. "The girl told her parents about the incident and they lodged a complaint with us."
Police subsequently held an inquiry with Rangasamy, who confessed to the crime. "We arrested Rangasamy under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act based on his confessional statement," the officer said.
Rangasamy was produced before the judicial magistrate of Salem district combined court and lodged in the Salem Central Prison under judicial custody.
