Jaisalmer: In a case of joint suicide, a mother threw her two kids into a water tank and set herself on fire, in Lilsar village under Chauhtan police station of Barmer district on Wednesday evening. Chauhatan police said the bodies of all the three deceased have been kept at the district hospital mortuary. Further action including the post-mortem will be conducted after the arrival of the woman’s maternal family.
According to Chauhtan police, the deceased woman identified as Soni (30), wife of Sataram, a resident of Lilsar village pushed her two children, Lalita (3) and Magaram (1,5) in a water tank on Wednesday late evening and then immolated herself.
On getting information about this incident, the villagers took out both the children from the tank but the two could not be saved. They also took the 80% burnt woman to the district hospital but she too died during treatment. Meanwhile, Chauhatan police are investigating the case.
According to assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Subhan Ali, the bodies of the woman and her two children have been kept in the mortuary of the district hospital. The post-mortem will be done after her maternal family arrives. The deceased woman was married 12 years ago and had five children. The eldest child being 10 years, the ASI further said.
Police said her husband is a private bus driver and was in Barmer at the time of the incident. Police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the suicide.
Further investigations by the police are going on.
