Night landing facility at Kanpur airport
KANPUR: With the launch of the new terminal at Chakeri airport in Kanpur, the night-landing facility (NLF) will also become operational for flights as all the work and trials related to it have been completed.
Officials said the new terminal building of the airport as well as the NLF will become operational on May 26. In the absence of the landing system, the airport faces the problem of sunset limitation, leading to cancellation or diversion of flights.
With the installation of NLF at the airport, aircraft will be able to spot the central line of the runway from a distance of 17 nautical miles (25 km), facilitating night operations. Since the commencement of work on the new terminal at Chakeri airport, AAI had plans for the installation of the NLF system. The authority finally began preparations for installation work of the instrument landing system (ILS) to allow aircraft to land at night and even during rough weather.
