HYDERABAD: BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay on Wednesday demanded the BRS government to pay 30,000 per acre instead of 10,000 towards compensation for the crop damage in the heavy rains.
Interacting with the paddy farmers in Sircilla district, he said: "I expected that chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao would sign the file of enhancing the compensation at the time of the inauguration of the new secretariat building. But, he did not do so."
He sought to know why the chief minister is going to other states when the farmers in the state are in deep distress due to crop damage. "The CM said he would announce a suitable compensation for the damaged crops within one week, but so far no aid has been given to rain-hit farmers," he said.
Sanjay said the farmers need enhanced compensation since they had invested a lot in pest control this time. Plus, inputs cost per acre crossed 30,000. "The tenant farmers are in a pathetic condition. They not only lost their crops but also need to repay their farm. Also, they cannot even avail fresh loans," he said adding that the government's aid so far has been minimal.
