Guwahati: Assam Police on Wednesday recovered a huge cache of smuggled arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, a 9mm pistol, magazines and bullets from Udalguri district, which falls in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
DGP GP Singh said the recovery was part of police efforts to make the state free of illegal firearms.
SP (Udalguri) Supriya Das said, “A team led by additional SP (crime) Jyoti Prasad Pegu conducted the operation in Shikaridanga area under Mazbat police station. The arms and ammunition were recovered in the presence of independent witnesses.” No arrests have been made so far.
