Kanpur: Rainy spell in the dry month of May continued on Wednesday. The city received light rains but the sky remained enveloped with dense clouds giving anticipation to the people that it might
rain heavily anytime but this did not happen.
According to the Met department of CSA University, there are chances of light to medium intensity rains till May 4 accompanied with lightning, thunderstorm and hailstorm.
On Tuesday, the city had received 25 mm of rainfall which was unusual considering the fact that there are almost no rains in the month of May. In the month of April, which is also a dry month, the city recorded 60 mm of rain. It has so far received 85 mm of rainfall which is much more than the average rainfall in these dry months. The rain has brought down day and the night temperatures. On Tuesday, the day temperature was 8.7 degrees which was less than the normal value. The situation improved a bit on Wednesday but still the temperature was below the normal value. The temperature recorded for the day was 32.8 degree Celsius which was 6.4 degrees below normal.
There was also a dip in the minimum temperature which was 5.3 degrees less than the normal value on Tuesday and was 3.1 degrees less on Wednesday.
The unseasonal rain made people feel some nip in the air, especially during late evening and the early morning hours. The weather was quite windy on Tuesday as the wind speed was 7.1 km/hour while on Wednesday, the wind speed reduced to 3.3 km/hour.
