KANPUR: A 19-year-old girl, who was allegedly shot at by her boyfriend at her home in UP’s Hamirpur district, died on the way to the hospital on Wednesday.
Initially, the family took the girl to a nearby community health centre where doctors referred her to Gwalior for treatment. But she died on the way.
The victim, Pooja of Basela village, was sleeping with her mother Chaina and grandmother Shyama Bai when her alleged boyfriend Deepak barged into the house with his friends on Tuesday night.
Police said Pooja and Deepak had a heated argument and he tried to take the girl along with him at gunpoint. When Pooja’s family members tried to stop Deepak he shot Pooja in the back with a countrymade firearm. The bullet pierced through Pooja’s back and stomach.
SP Hamirpur Deeksha Sharma said Deepak has been arrested. "Deepak and Pooja were in a relationship for the past three years but her family was opposed to it. This had enraged Deepak. Two pistols including the one used in the crime were recovered from Deepak,” the SP said.
