BELAGAVI: Chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Monday dialled Mahadevappa Mahalinga Mali, a 103-year-old voter from Chikkodi town in Belagavi district, and thanked him for casting his vote, and taking part in the festival of democracy.
The CEC said voters like Mahadevappa are an inspiration for others. Mahadevappa too thanked the CEC for the vote-from-home facility, a first in Karnataka assembly elections. “All these years, we used to visit polling stations on wheelchairs. But not any more,” he added. In Belagavi district, 8,636 voters, including 6,975 elderly people and 1,661 physically challenged ones, voted from home on April 29, according to a release.
