LUCKNOW: Seven of a family, including children, had a narrow escape after the balcony of a dilapidated building collapsed in Lucknow’s Hazratganj on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place in the Drivers’ Colony at Tilak Marg at around 8pm.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident and directed the officials to reach the accident scene immediately and start the relief work.
He also directed the officials to ensure proper medical treatment to those injured in the mishap. He wished speedy recovery of the injured persons.
“These are old residences of the government and located behind Tilak Marg. The Chhajja (balcony) fell and four people have been evacuated. No one is trapped under rubble,” said UP DGP Rajkumar Vishwakarma.
Mangesh Kumar, chief fire officer, said that a hydraulic platform was used to rescue the family members as the rubble had blocked the main door.
“Nobody sustained injuries, and all were rescued successfully,” said Kumar. The operation lasted 45 minutes.
