Is Ohio the best state? Not even close, per a U.S. News & World Report ranking


U.S. News & World Report released its latest overall ranking of states Tuesday, and Ohio placed ... 34th overall?
You read that correctly. Our great state didn't crack the top 10, or the top 20, or even the top 30. In 34th place, Ohio was slightly ahead of neighboring Kentucky (No. 39), and behind Indiana (No. 29).
The Best States project from U.S. News & World Report analyzes statistics of more than 70 metrics across eight categories, including health care, education and the natural environment. This year, Utah took the top position, beating out Washington, the previous two-year champion.

- Utah.
- Washington.
- Idaho.
- Nebraska.
- Minnesota.
- New Hampshire.
- Iowa.
- Wisconsin.
- Vermont.
- Florida.
While Ohio and Kentucky may be in the 30s, the two states are far from the lowest in the ranking. Louisiana came in 50th this year. Here are the other states that were ranked the lowest overall, from 41st-50th place:
