HC orders petitioner to file affidavit against MLA
Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Tuesday ordered Umesh Kumar, a petitioner, to file an affidavit after he informed the court that he has been threatened by MLA Anup Singh of Congress to withdraw a PIL filed on irregularities in a tender for the sale of wholesale liquor in the state.
A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra and Justice Ananda Sen was informed by Umesh’s counsel Rajeev Kumar that his client was threatened by the legislator to back out and take back the case filed in the high court.
Umesh Kumar has questioned the tender process for the allotment of sale of wholesale liquor in the state. The high court ordered the counsel to file an affidavit on behalf of his client and bring his statements of being threatened by Singh on record. The court also ordered the state government to file an affidavit and inform about the tender process. The case will again be heard on May 18.
