LUCKNOW: The Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway (NER) is likely to introduce Vande Bharat Express from Gorakhpur to Delhi via Lucknow this year. This will be the third Vande Bharat Express operational in the state and second connecting eastern UP. At present, Vande Bharat trains are running between Varanasi and Delhi, and Delhi and Bhopal via Mathura and Agra.
Speaking to TOI, DRM of Lucknow division (NER) Aditya Kumar said: "If everything goes according to plan, the division will operate Vande Bharat Express between Gorakhpur and Lucknow, and if possible till New Delhi." "We are working to strengthen the sections between Gorakhpur, Gonda and Lucknow to handle train movement at 160 kmph. Railway is eager to develop at least one stretch in the eastern area to have a track of 160 kmph," said Kumar, a 1995-batch IRPS officer.
NER has also proposed at least three trains for Mumbai. He said, "At least 15 railway stations, including four Lucknow (Badshahnagar, Aishbagh, Lucknow City and Daliganj), will be redeveloped. The stations will have roof plaza with food court, shopping centre, and separate arrival and departure areas," said Kumar.
He added that stations in Gola Gokarannath, Tulsipur, Balrampur and other religious destinations in Lucknow division are being upgraded with traditional facade, improved waiting area, washrooms, ticket counters and other facilities."
"At the Lucknow junction, a better passenger-friendly approach will be ensured. The frontline staff are being trained to help passengers," he said.
