Nagpur: Contrary to the statement of Union minister
Nitin Gadkari to end the tanker mafia, former BJP corporators on Tuesday demanded the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to strengthen tanker service to supply water in non-network areas.
Due to a lesser number of tankers, people living on the outskirts of NMC limits were facing a severe water crisis, a delegation of former mayors and corporators from BJP told municipal commissioner and administrator Radhakrishnan B on Tuesday.
BJP’s former mayors and corporators including Sandip Joshi, Dayashankar Tiwari, Avinash Thakre, Vijay Zalke, Prakash Bhoyar, Virendra Kukreja, Sandip Gawai, Sanjay Bangale, Divya Dhurde, Sangita Girhe, and Vishakha Mohod, met Radhakrishnan over deteriorating basic civic amenities. They demanded improvement in water supply, sweeping of roads, garbage collection, accelerating nullah cleaning work and other works.
The ex corporators said that trees, which were uprooted in last month’s heavy rain, are still lying on roads, and in gardens. There is no mechanism to respond to these cases swiftly, they said.
Citing several examples, the ex-corporators claimed that the online grievance redressal system is of no use. Despite using the online system, the NMC team failed to resolve the issues raised by the taxpayers, they said. “In many cases, online complaints are being closed without resolving the issues,” said former standing committee chairman Vijay Zalke.
Divya Dhurde drew the attention towards the growing population of stray dogs. She said that the Nehru Nagar zone is under the grip of stray dog menace, and every other day citizens are complaining about packs of dogs attacking children and senior citizens.
Sangita Girhe said Zingabai Takli and other areas in west Nagpur are witnessing sewerage choking problems frequently.
