Majorda: Varca Sports Club secured a place in the semifinals of the 31st St. Rock Super Soccer with a thrilling 3-2 win over Mormugao United at Majorda on Wednesday.
The match saw some exciting moments with Varca SC dominating the first half, and Mormugao United fighting back in the second half. In the end, Varca SC’s early lead proved enough to see them through to the next round of the tournament.
Varca SC took the lead in the 19th minute through Landen Mendonza and doubled their advantage at the half-hour mark with Yunal Fernandes finding the net.
In the second half, Varca continued to dominate and Clayton Luis extended their lead to 3-0 with a goal in the 40th minute. Mormugao United’s goalkeeper, Vikar Mazumdar, made a fine save to prevent Joyston Nunes from scoring a long-range attempt.
However, Mormugao United managed to pull one back through Aaron Fernandes in the 48th minute, and Johan Misqueita further reduced the deficit to 2-3.
Despite Mormugao’s fightback, Varca SC held on to their lead to clinch a hard-fought victory and progress to the semifinals.
