Mangaluru: “While menopause is a normal part of ageing, the changes it brings can be challenging for some women,” said Dr Jyotsna Coelho, obstetrician and gynaecologist at Father Muller Medical College Hospital in the city on Tuesday. “There are several ways to cope with these changes and maintain good health during this transition,” she added.
“One of the most important things a woman can do during menopause is to take care of her overall health. This includes getting enough sleep, avoiding caffeine, exercising regularly, and practising relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation. Eating a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables and calcium-rich foods can also help to alleviate symptoms,” said Dr Jyotsna.
She was speaking during an interactive session on the subject ‘Menopause: A Guide to Health and Wellbeing,’ organised by the PG Journalism and Mass Communication department of St Aloysius College, in collaboration with Jeevandhara Centre, Kulshekar.
Dr Jyotsna Coelho said, “If symptoms are severe, hormone therapy or low-dose anti-depressants may be prescribed to control mood swings and hot flashes. However, it’s important to talk to a healthcare professional before starting any treatment.”
