KCBC president Mar Baselios Cleemis seeks ban on Kakkukali in Kerala
Mar Baselios Cleemis said that those demanding the drama to be staged are the spokespersons of hatred and the stand taken by those talking about love for minorities & secularism is painful
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KCBC president and major archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church Mar Baselios Cleemis has sought a ban on 'Kakkukali' play stating that it defames Christianity and spread the wrong message among other religious groups.
He said that as far as Christianity is concerned, asceticism is the most beautiful form of the religion. "It is someone's secret agenda to spread false stories and lies about those who contributed greatly towards education, social service and healthcare. It is not clear whether the government and the opposition parties have understood this agenda. Those demanding the drama to be staged, are the spokespersons of hatred against the Christians," he said.
He further said that the stand taken by those talking eloquently about love for minorities and secularism is painful. "The Church is interested in knowing the opinion of all the political parties in the state, irrespective of their politics. The permission for staging the drama was given by ignoring the representation of the Church seeking denial of permission by the respective district collectors in their districts for staging it. Equality of justice is the right of the Christian community, like other communities," he said.
Meanwhile, culture and fisheries minister Saji Cheriyan said that the government has received a petition from the Christian religious leaders in connection with the play. Nothing that hurts religious sentiments can be justified. The government has asked the concerned to examine the complaint. People should boycott such things which are spreading lies, he said.
